August 29, 2011 2 comments

So, I started this column, Who Would You Rather? several years ago and people liked it and since I’m starting to feel a little rejuvenated creatively, I’ve decided to bring it back! Every day we are met with choices, some easy, some difficult, but most likely, you have to choose, so let’s see what you think when you read the choices I give you!

So, as you will see below, you have two options, Who Would you Rather?

Post image for The 48th Anniversary of the March On Washington: A Celebration Of MLK’s WordsA few years ago, I had the distinct pleasure of researching Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech and his day leading up to the March On Washington. What I found was fascinating, like: Instead of sleeping the night before the march, Dr. King rewrote and tweaked his speech, which he’d given a test run at an earlier rally in Detroit; he gave the speech on an empty stomach, having gone almost an entire day without eating while he took meetings and prepared; they hyped crowd started the march from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Monument without Martin and his co-leaders, forcing them to scramble to get in front of the massive crowd depicted in the iconic photo pictured, Martin loved his some Mahalia Jackson and specifically requested she sing before he gave his speech. She obliged him with the slow, sad, but defiant slave spiritual, “I’ve Been ‘Buked and I’ve Been Scorned.”

Of course, we all know what happened when Dr. King took the mic; his famous speech spoke of the inequities blacks faced in a land that staked its claim on freedom, implored Americans to take note of the struggles of people of color, and outlined an incredible case for legislative change. Most of us have learned and probably know some measure of the historic speech, hailed as one of the most passionate, profound and revered speeches of the 20th Century. Read more…

Hip-Hop Icons Collaborate on Album

August 29, 2011 1 comment

Hip-Hop legends, El Da Sensei of the Artifacts and Sadat X of Brand Nubian; have shared stages, crossed paths both domestically and internationally for the better part of 18 years. Finally, these two lyrical heavyweights align for a full-length album.

CoalMine Music, Inc. in conjunction with Jersey Sound Lab Recordings, will be spearheading this classic collaboration of  raw lyrics, distinct vocals and originality back to hip-hop.  The album will debut first quarter of 2012.  The joint effort will display a unique fusion of Sadat X’s “Wild Cowboy” style with a blend of El Da Sensei’s “Crowd Pleasa” flow.  Fans will definitely be treated to a distinct fusion of raw lyrics and crafty, artist catered beats.
