Yes, I tuned into what the Rickey Smiley Show billed this morning as the “SuperBowl of Ratchetness,” last night’s reunion episode of “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta,” ready for the tomfoolery that is this cast of misfits, wanna-bes and deeply confused and troubled women who air out their dirty thongs for checks. I was all set to laugh and teach—I let my teenager watch “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” as a cautionary tale on how not to conduct yourself with men, friends and in a business—but within the first five minutes of the show, I just found myself pissed, thanks to K. Michelle’s nasty, base attack on the ages of her cast mates, whom she referred to as “old ass Harriet Tubman bitches.”
Marinate on that. Old ass Harriet Tubman bitches. And as if invoking the name of one of the proudest, most heroic black women in African-American history to insult a fellow woman’s age and looks wasn’t enough, K. Michelle went on to say that cast member Karlie is old enough to have “marched with Martin Luther King back in 1968,” and that she has a wrinkled neck. I’m not even going to get into what that girl said about Karlie’s lady parts. Or how she later again reached into her bag of ageism insults to attack cast member Rasheeda when they got into a tousle over friendships, allegiances and lying. Read more of this post

1. How has the internet changed the thinking of companies, artists and just the world in general?
The internet hasn’t changed the thinking of companies or artists.
Companies still want to make money off consumers and the internet gives companies access to learning what people want in their deepest dreams.
Artists still want to present their art to the most people who might find a connection (relationship) with the content the artists create and the internet gives these artists a more focused reach to the world.
The end result for companies and artists remains the same. Artists still create. Companies still exploit.
2. What prompted you to take your talents to the internets when you did so? And also tell us how long you’ve been in this space as well. Read more of this post

by Denene Millner

It’s not that I’m anti-father. I have one. Married to one, too. I know firsthand the power a good black dad has in the life of children—how their presence and love and discipline and direction can change the course and work miracles for little human beings. I know, too, that though we are a society that deifies motherhood, not all black mothers are good moms—that pushing a child from your loins does not guarantee you’ll be fit and ready to properly raise a little one. Still, in my heart, I just feel like something is woefully wrong about the whole Usher Raymond vs. Tameka Raymond child custody case that, on Friday, saw the R&B superstar awarded primary custody of the ex-couple’s sons.
For the record, I don’t know Usher and Tameka beyond pictures of them as a happy couple under the stress of the ugly public glare and then an angry, divorcing couple fighting over their kids, Saks Fifth Avenue cards, nanny salaries and who loves their kids more. Though I’ve read plenty on the innanets about their bitter divorce case and public child custody tussling, I believe what I see only .01 percent of the time because, well, the internet is full of fans and liars—fans and liars who get it wrong and don’t care that their starry-eyed wrongness and desperate need to align with celebrity has a real impact on real lives. Particularly in this, the Raymond vs. Raymond case. Read more of this post

I’m increasingly alarmed at the notion that having a college degree somehow makes a person intellectually superior in the area of personal finance. Last I checked, personal finance has yet to be made a mandatory course on every high school and college campuse in this country even though it is the one subject you actually do need in the real world no matter what path you ultimately select.
So, why is it that when I write a blog post about poor spending behaviors, the first person to disagree always justifies their opinion with “I’m a college graduate . . . “ as if that means anything to me. Guess what? I’m a college graduate, as well and I left one of the best institutions on the West Coast with thousands of dollars of debt not including student loans. I had grants, scholarships, parental support and a full time job all four years. I was a Dean’s List student that unfortunately just sucked with money. I wasn’t out buying designer bags and taking Spring Break excursions either. It was truly the little things that added up and I actually fell for the “Life Takes Visa” slogan!August 26, 2012 Leave a comment

http://www.evasaidit.com/2012/08/the-internet-fcking-up-blind-dates-since-birth/
Blind dates. They’re awkward, uncomfortable, and just weird. Actually, no, they’re not…because they don’t exist anymore.
Think about it. Going on a blind date USED to mean that you and another party agreed to do the unthinkable: sit at a table with a total stranger, on whom you had never laid eyes, knew only the basics about, armed only with the hunch from a mutual well-meaning friend that you won’t want to run away as soon as this stranger bitch person sits down.
Now, blind dates mean a well-meaning friend has shown your Facebook page album collection default picture to someone (“Half Blind Mouse 1″) they think is less crazy than you compatible with you (“Half Blind Mouse 2″), and that person has given a cursory approval on you. Together, before approaching you, those two scanned your recent statuses and clicked your Twitter link to demonstrate that you (gentlemen) don’t exhibit “thirst” or establish that you (ladies) are not an internet heaux.
“See?! You guys are a total match!” says the well-meaning pal.
