Jonathan Nelson’s New CD, “Finish Strong” on February 26, 2013…New Single Available on iTunes NOW

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us(Detroit, MI – November 7, 2012) – Karew (pronounced: Kuh-rue) Records announces the CD release of Jonathan Nelson’s first album on Karew Records, Finish Strong. The album will be in stores on February 26, 2013. The album’s title single, “Finish Strong,” is available on iTunes and other online retail. The single was released on Election Day, November 6.

A leader in urban contemporary worship and praise, Nelson penned the single with Kenneth Shelton. “Finish Strong” captures the message of the whole album-whatever God has for you to do, you must continue to go after it, never give up and finish strong. It is a universal message that will appeal to a broad audience. “I hope people will finish strong in whatever they are assigned to do in life,” says Nelson. “It isn’t about how well you start, but it is about how well you finish. You must run the race and do it with patience and endurance because it’s not going to be easy. You’re going to have some road blocks, detours and delays, but you have to finish strong.” Nelson also hopes to use this song as a platform to promote healthy living, encouraging people to get their “minds, bodies and souls” intact; and he wants to use the universal themes of the song to bring people to Christ. Carey was the 2012 recipient of BMI’s Icon Music Award. A personal favorite, Carey requested Clark Sheard to be a part of the tribute, which also included performances by Fantasia, Joe, Eric Benet and a special DJ medley mix by longtime super producer Jermaine Dupri. Clark Sheard performed Carey’s gospel-influenced “Anytime You Need a Friend,” written and co-produced by Carey, which was featured on the Music Box album (1993). “It was an honor to be a part of Mariah’s tribute,” says Clark Sheard. “From the beginning, I’ve always loved her and her music. She is an inspiration and blessing to the world.  She is an incredible artist and friend.  She has always been a constant supporter and cheerleader for my music and ministry.” Read more of this post

Fifty Percent Unemployment for Blacks in New York – may become national norm

http://rawdawgb.blogspot.com/2012/07/fifty-percent-unemployment-for-blacks.html

By Torrance Stephens

With the growing troubles of the Eurozone economic crisis, most recently as it pertains to Greece, massive bailouts for Italy and Spain and a recent request for European Central Bank support for more loans for Cyprus, the US economy continues to stall with projections of stagnant growth and perpetual unemployment above 8 percent.  Now, with major banks being downgraded across the nation, it is clear again that blacks will bear the brunt of the economic downturn.

Historically, blacks always suffer disproportionately in times of economic hardship.  Today it may be even worse than past decades, in particular in urban areas. According to a new study conducted by Dr. James Parrott, chief economist for the Fiscal Policy Institute, more than half of all of African-Americans in New York city who were old enough to work had no job at all in the past year based on an analysis of employment data compiled by the federal Labor Department.

Ignorant and Stupid At the Same D### Time

http://rawdawgb.blogspot.com/2012/04/ignorant-and-stupid-at-same-d-time.html

By Torrance Stephens

I must admit, I am disappointed, afraid and frankly appalled at the extent to which sciolism is displayed in America, especially among folks that look like me. It seems that we parade our ignorance and lack of respect and appreciation for presenting ourselves in the best fashion, as if it is something to be proud of.The badge of honor through the lyrics include: “On the phone, cooking dope, at the same damn time and Selling white, selling mid, at the same damn time.” The only lyrics that are missing and would be a better reflection of the kind of mind set that would spend time creating such garbage is “ignorant and stupid at the same d*** time.” Yes I said it and this is all it can be. On the front in there are no other words to describe this type of belief system other than brainless, deficient, doltish or imbecilic and on the back end, cloddish, birdbrained, dense, misinformed and nescient. Black Boys in Detroit School Stage Walk Out to Protest Their Bad Education

Post image for Black Boys in Detroit School Stage Walk Out to Protest Their Bad Education

By NICK CHILES

Something remarkable happened in Detroit this past week: dozens of students at the all-male Frederick Douglass Academy walked out of school together to protest the depressingly bad education that they have been receiving at this public school. The students claim that teachers are consistently absent, the school leadership is in disarray, they don’t have enough textbooks and so many of them have been left unattended by teachers calling in sick that dozens of students regularly gather together in the cafeteria and other common areas because they have nothing else to do.

The protest is taking place in a city that is viewed as one of the worst urban school districts in the nation. On the first day of school this year in Detroit, the attendance rate was 55 percent! Read more of this post

Detroit Columnist Calls for Sterilants in Drinking Water to Reduce Number Of Poor Blacks

http://rawdawgb.blogspot.com/2012/02/detroit-columnist-calls-for-sterilants.html

By

Slavery and extermination of the Jews, all events that have been started by European cultures seem to be retro-chic once again. However, it seems that this time the targets are the African American urban poor.

Recently, the Detroit News published a call to add contraceptives to the water supply, in an effort to limit the number of Africa Americans born based on the assumption that they will only become poor as well as a burden to society. In essence a state mandate to decide who should live and who should die.

The Editorial page editor Nolan Finley writes: “Since the national attention is on birth control, here’s my idea: If we want to fight poverty, reduce violent crime and bring down our embarrassing drop-out rate, we should swap contraceptives for fluoride in Michigan’s drinking water.“

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Expenditure Survey in the year of 2008 calculated the average annual contribution of Black households to religious organizations was $683.  With well over 9 million Black households in America, that means well over $6 billion in 2008 was contributed to Black churches across the country. What is done with this money and are the churches doing all they can to make sure this money is fruitful?

In the year of 2008 I spoke with over 80 pastors in the NYC area to discuss how they can more effectively use their church as an empowerment vehicle these are just a few of my findings… Read more of this post

Is President Obama Afraid to Discuss Black People? A Writer Compares Obama, Carter, Reagan

http://yourblackmoney.wordpress.com/2011/08/25/is-president-obama-afraid-to-discuss-black-people-a-writer-compares-obama-carter-reagan/

by Dr. Boyce Watkins, Your Black World

Writer Trymaine Lee recently spoke on President Obama’s economic policies, particularly as they relate to the African American community.   Lee does a very good job of comparing the statements of President Obama on black unemployment to those of Presidents Carter and Reagan, who also faced historic unemployment during their regimes.  I am not sure why Lee left the Bush presidents off the table, but I suspect it is because they ran the nation when the economic situation was not nearly as dire.

Lee seems to argue that both Reagan and Carter differed from President Obama in that they were not afraid to address black people directly or advocate for targeted economic policy to urban centers or people of color.  However, when President Obama has been confronted with the unique challenges facing black America, a “rising tide will lift all boats” metaphor was used.   In his metaphor, President Obama was effectively arguing that if he helped everyone, that would automatically help the African American community.
