Chain-Swinging Dad Storms School, Demands To Know Who’s Sexing His Baby Girl

Sometimes, your kids need to know you’re a little crazy. I’m a firm believer of this, and I remind Mari and Lila often: “You know your mama’s crazy, right? You better go on ‘head and let your little friends know.” Apparently, I’m not the only parent who thinks this way, as evidenced by the New York City dad who showed up to his daughter’s high school, swinging a chain and padlock in the air, talmbout, “Who’s f*cking my daughter?”

Marinate on that.

Right.

Let’s proceed.

Apparently, Michael Canaii was upset that his daughter was smoking weed and not listening to him, and so he took it to the hallways of the High School of Graphic Communication Arts in New York City, where he stalked the halls, swinging the chain while threatening to fight two students, several security guards and a dean if folk didn’t square up, identify the culprits and put an end to his little girl’s bad behavior. “He was swinging the chain saying, ‘I’m going to f*ck you all up,” a student told the New York Post. Gangsta. Read more of this post

16 Years, 16 Lessons Learned!

http://mrsdevetersfabjourney.blogspot.com/2012/10/16-years-16-lessons-learned.html

By Deveter Brown

Today I wish my beloved husband a very happy 16th wedding anniversary. Over the past 16 years I’ve learned some rather useful lessons. Of course I won’t share them all but here are 16 for every year of wedded bliss.

BTW I borrowed 14 of these from my blog post in 2010 when I was a list driven blogger. They are still true so I figured I’d just add 2 more lessons. Hope you enjoy.

  1. Never say never – I said I never wanted children and then I was bit by the baby bug and here we stand the proud parents of three
  2. Over communicate – Saying you told him/her about the party two weeks ago means nothing. Put it on the family calendar, create an event on Google and FaceBook, send a text, tweet or put a post it note on the fridge listing how many days are left until the event. Read more of this post

The Internet: F*cking Up Blind Dates Since Birth

http://www.evasaidit.com/2012/08/the-internet-fcking-up-blind-dates-since-birth/

By Eva Said

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usBlind dates. They’re awkward, uncomfortable, and just weird. Actually, no, they’re not…because they don’t exist anymore.

Think about it. Going on a blind date USED to mean that you and another party agreed to do the unthinkable: sit at a table with a total stranger, on whom you had never laid eyes, knew only the basics about, armed only with the hunch from a mutual well-meaning friend that you won’t want to run away as soon as this stranger bitch person sits down.

Now, blind dates mean a well-meaning friend has shown your Facebook page album collection default picture to someone (“Half Blind Mouse 1″) they think is less crazy than you compatible with you (“Half Blind Mouse 2″), and that person has given a cursory approval on you. Together, before approaching you, those two scanned your recent statuses and clicked your Twitter link to demonstrate that you (gentlemen) don’t exhibit “thirst” or establish that you (ladies) are not an internet heaux.

“See?! You guys are a total match!” says the well-meaning pal.

When It Comes to Dating and Hooking Up Sites, Leave the Kiddies Out of It!

Now we get word that an online social and dating site called Skout has shut down its teen section after reports surfaced that adults were using the teen section to lure teens into encounters that resulted in at least three rapes, according to the New York Times.

Initially Skout had a separate section for adults and teens that actually allowed users to broadcast their locations, but—surprise!—apparently sexual predators with an interest in children were going into the teen section to find victims. Is it just me, or does this sound like the dumbest idea in the world, to advertise to adults the nearby existence of a place where they could find all the precious young meat they’d ever desire—all they had to do is pretend to be a teenager? Baby Facebook: Parental Controls Or No, Kids On Facebook Means Mo’ Problems For Parents

http://mybrownbaby.com/2012/06/baby-facebook-parental-controls-or-no-kids-on-facebook-means-mo-problems-for-parents/

By Denene Millner

Post image for Baby Facebook: Parental Controls Or No, Kids On Facebook Means Mo’ Problems For ParentsDear Sweet baby Jesus: Please save the babies from Mark Zuckerberg and the massive time-suck/child molester magnet that is sure to be the so-called “Baby Facebook,” a kid version of the world’s most popular social media site allegedly being conjured up by good ol’ Zuck and the crew.

The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that Facebook is preparing a membership option for children under age 13—a new feature that would allow kids access to the social network with their parents’ permission and supervision. The kids’ accounts would be linked to their parents’ pages, allowing parents to control who their children add as friends and which apps they use.

Of course, a “Baby Facebook” would add, like, a bazillion more users to Facebook’s 900 million user base. And, of course, open the social media giant up to all kinds of advertising and marketing goodness in the lucrative children’s market. Read more of this post

Why Your Personal Life Impacts Your Professional Brand

http://seekwisdomfindwealth.blogspot.com/2012/05/why-your-personal-life-impacts-your.html

By Patrice C. Washington

We can’t help it. Whether we hear Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola or Wal-Mart, we automatically create very specific images in our head about each one of those brands and what they represent to us.  Likewise, very specific images come up when we hear names like Beyonce or Cher or Michael Jackson. Brands don’t only pertain to businesses, but people, as well.  So, it’s important to understand that whether you are trying to or not, YOU represent a brand.  And whether you want to accept it or not, there is absolutely no way to separate your personal and professional brand.  Just think of the late Whitney Houston. What she may have considered “personal business” still managed to impede her professional brand when it was all said and done.
So, if we know this is true, let’s tackle 3 areas where your personal life DOES impact your professional brand.

King Drummer Boy Is Ready To Claim His Throne

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usThe 14 year old sensation known to the world as King Drummer Boy has already accomplished more in a few years than most people have tried to do their whole lifetime.  This amazing young man is part owner of his own record label, he can play 5 different instruments and he wrote and produced songs on his debut album.  He is proving that just because you are young it’s never too early to start pursuing your dreams.  Born, Thomas Harris Jr. he is focused on being a positive role model and making a difference in the world with his music.  In a time when our children are being killed, abused and facing a laundry list of challenges that age them beyond their years, it’s refreshing to see an artist that is making age appropriate music while investing in his future and contributing to the music world. Some of you can relate. Some of you will have to imagine. But paint this picture in your mind. It’s the big game. The team is in the locker and they can feel the electricity in the air from the packed house of people waiting to watch. Some players are off on their own down on their knee saying a prayer. Some players are sitting still with their eyes closed with headphones on. Some players are getting their ankles tapes up by the trainers while a few other players are stretching and running in place to get their muscles warmed up. The office door opens and the Head Coach walks out with an evil grin and an intense focused look in his eyes. He calls the team together to take a seat and listen… Read more of this post

You watch TV don’t you? Of course you do. Have you ever seen the commercials for Southwest airlines? They promote the fact that they don’t charge you extra for your baggage. That’s the perk of flying with Southwest. Delta is about to create a new perk, as well. They’re making their overhead bins larger so that we’ll be able to (or at least they’ll be creating the illusion of us being able to) bring more carry-on luggage on board. I guess the new perk of Delta will be reduced luggage fees since we’ll be able to bring more on the plane. Oh, did you know that one of the perks of Cold Stone Ice cream is that they allow you to walk in with your own toppings? Yes, you can literally walk in there with an almond joy candy bar and ask them to break it up and sprinkle it on top of your coconut ice cream… Trust Me, I KNOW! Oh, wait… what about when you buy an iPhone? Dude, they have over a half-million Apps! That’s actually why I’ll be leaving #TeamBlackberry just after Memorial Day… Long story. Read more of this post

How to Create Wealthy Habits – Part 1

http://seekwisdomfindwealth.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-create-wealthy-habits-part-1.html
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Most people understand the saying that we are “creatures of habit.”  The part they don’t get, however, is that habits come in two forms: doing and not doing. Many of us can think of the things we actively do each day as habits which may be either good or bad.  But, when you don’t do the things you know you should be doing, then you are practicing the often unnoticed habit of simply not doing, which can be just as detrimental.  As I tell my clients often, “Stop telling me what you are trying to do.  You’re either doing or you’re not doing. There is no in between.”
So, if you aren’t practicing wealthy habits, then more than likely you are practicing un-wealthy habits. Once you acknowledge that there is no in between and begin to take action, you can move onward and upward. The choice is ultimately yours.
Here are a few ways to begin creating wealthy habits today: Read more of this post

Tyrese, Monica, Fantasia, Slimm on Vivica & More in Sister 2 Sister January Issue

Monica… A Real Basketball Wife
R&B star and real life Basketball Wife Monica shares exclusive family photos with S2S and tells Publisher Jamie Foster Brown about her life with her hubby, L.A. Lakers star guard Shannon Brown: when she knew he was “the one,” how they make their blended family work, what’s up with her girlfriends Keyshia Cole and Brandy, her new CD, why she consults with super-producer Dallas Austin on everything, reality TV and her true thoughts on her gig with The Voice. When asked if she’ll ever go back to having her own reality show, she says, “It depends on how.  Shannon and I definitely don’t want The Monica-Shannon Show.  We’re in the early stages of our marriage; we’re just one year in, so we’re constantly building the foundation.  We don’t want to open up the doors for others to be constantly tearing it down.  Would I do a show about the music, more like Still Standing (BET) was?  Of course.

And on Dallas Austin, she admits, “I don’t do records without consulting with Dallas.  I didn’t get married before I spoke to him…so when I play him songs, and Dallas jumps up and down and he starts moving and dancing, I know that that record is a real Monica record.”

It Needs To Be CED: Wait, There Are Racists in the New York Police Department?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usI’d like to know why there is always an air of shock whenever there are reports of racism in the NYPD ranks? This is nothing new and I don’t see it going away anytime soon. Now, amid reports that some New York City police officers have created a Facebook page, ‘No More West Indian Day Detail’ to protest having to work the large annual parade, which draws the largest amount of Caribbean people to Brooklyn on the Sunday before Labor Day.  Granted, there has been reports of violence at the event, but there are usually similar findings at the St. Patrick’s Day and the Puerto Rican Day parade, so it’s not just limited to the biggest parade in New York City.

But, it’s not the fact that the officers are complaining about working the event, it’s their description of the paradegoers that’s causing the ruckus. Describing Black people  as animals and savages is straight insulting and reeks of racism. And, of course, some of the police that have posted, are basically taking the ‘celebrity’ way out by claiming they may have been hacked and it wasn’t them writing the nonsense being posted. How convenient! There are always reports of bias within the ranks, yet, for every instance of said reports, there are more denials, yet, it’s a continuous complaint. Just like their flawed ‘stop and frisk’ program, which is a great way to exercise prejudice against ‘minority’ youth in ‘targeted’ neighborhoods.

First Impressions are Lasting Impressions

http://blacklifecoaches.net/2011/11/30/impressions-lasting-impressions/

by Cherese L. Jackson

Someone once said, “First impressions are lasting impressions”.

An impression is an effect produced on the senses, mind or emotions. Something that denotes an engraved mark or figure.  No matter who you are, you have at some point in time purchased products based on their brand; items such as clothing, sneakers, electronics and even food to name a few. In other words you have made decisions among competing brands while ultimately choosing some brands over others because of an impression even before an actual experience.

What does this all mean? As an individual, you must acknowledge that you are a brand. And who better to market your personal brand than you. This means that at the end of the day, the success of your personal brand lies in your hands.

Even though your appearance is a part of your impression it’s not the only thing, which matters. Your impression means your overall personality and it consists of the following:

  1. The way you carry yourself
  2. The way your dress
  3. The way you express yourself
  4. Your mannerism
  5. Your behavior Read more of this post

{Let’s Talk About Sex} Tweens, Sex & the Essence Article That Scared the Crap Out Of Me

http://mybrownbaby.com/2011/10/lets-talk-about-sex-tweens-sex-the-essence-article-that-scared-the-crap-out-of-me/

Post image for {Let’s Talk About Sex} Tweens, Sex & the Essence Article That Scared the Crap Out Of MeBy Denene Millner
A few weeks ago, I dropped my Mari off for her first day of middle school and watched her trot up the long walkway to the junior high building, and then I promptly pulled my car around the corner and cried like a baby with a nasty head cold. An ugly, snotty cry.

I mean, I recognize that our job is to keep our babies from killing their fool selves as they march toward being grown up human beings and that we have to learn to let go a little, but on that day, as she pecked my cheek and bounced away from my car, it was very, very clear to me that, well, I ain’t ready for all that.

But in my quiet moments, when I really consider the kind of mother I am and especially the kind of mom I want to be to my babies, I recognize that I have to get ready. Especially for my Mari, who, at age 12, is hurtling head first into puberty and teenhood and all the stuff that comes with the two.

It’s the “stuff” that scares me—the stuff being the boys and the peer pressure and the self-consciousness and the sneaking and the rebellion and the false sense of maturity. I was a teenager once. I remember the mean girls. The cute boys and their sweet talk. The friends with the basements and the liquor cabinets and parents who turned a blind eye. How we all slathered on our war paint—our mom’s mascara and lipstick—and ran toward the fire, books and grades and what we learned at church on Sunday morning be damned. Read more of this post

Bank Transfer Day: Are You In?

http://seekwisdomfindwealth.blogspot.com/2011/10/bank-transfer-day-are-you-in-or-out.html

The concept of Bank Transfer Day only sprung up this past weekend and already the social media driven initiative has gone viral and gained media attention worldwide. The Facebook campaign is urging Americans to close their accounts at large banks and place their money in local credit unions by or on November 5th in order to show contempt for bank conglomerates, such as Bank of America, who are increasing and establishing new debit card fees at a time when Americans continuously feel the security and stability of their own lives slipping away.
The page, now supported by over 28,000 who have indicated they will make the switch, states that “Together we can ensure that these banking institutions will ALWAYS remember the 5th of November! If the 99% removes our funds from the major banking institutions to non-profit credit unions on or by this date, we will send a clear message to the 1% that conscious consumers won’t support companies with unethical business practices.” After all, not only is mainstream still suffering, but U.S. bank executives continue to enjoy large salaries and bonuses – even after accepting large federal bailout funds.

Old School Practices You Should Consider Ditching

http://www.curlynikki.com/2011/10/old-school-practices-you-should.html

by Tammy Goodson of Curlychics

1. Using “grease” to oil your scalp (Blue Magic, Ultrasheen, etc.)
This very old school practice was once considered a treat and darn near a religious experience to have someone “grease your scalp”. Most little girls spent Saturday afternoons between their mother’s legs with a jar in tow. It was supposed to treat dry scalp, add sheen and provide nourishment to the hair strands.
Reasons to Reconsider
• Clogs the pores
• Attracts dirt
• Weighs down tresses leaving a greasy feeling

2. Scratching dandruff
This old school practice often went hand in hand with old school practice #1. This is the act of going through the hair section by section with a comb and scratching the partings in the hair, thus lifting all the dandruff and dry flakes from the scalp.

Reasons to Reconsider Read more of this post
