Cash Money Records has officially entered into a multi-million dollar partnership for an undisclosed amount with Chase Records. This is the start of a multi-million dollar venture between both entities.
Now, under this unique collaborative initiative between Cash Money and Chase, 17-year-old rising superstar Austin Mahone will release his hotly anticipated full-length debut album later this year. With these industry powerhouses on board, it’s undeniably poised to be one of the biggest pop breakouts of 2013.
This is only the beginning for the partnership between Cash Money, Chase, and Republic Records. Chase will augment Cash Money‘s foothold in the pop world, expanding the label’s sphere of influence in the genre and strengthening its overall impact. With more projects on the horizon, they’ve formed a genuine dream team for all forthcoming releases. Austin‘s success established Chase as a launch pad for new talent, and Cash Money proves the perfect partner.
Cash Money Records co-founder and co-C.E.O. Ronald “Slim” Williams feels that excitement as well. “We’ve been colleagues with the Chase team for a while,” he says. “As we continue our expansion, Chase Records is the perfect partner for Cash Money as we’re both striving for excellence and now we’re going to make history together. We’ve been watching Austin ascend to the ranks of pop music’s elite. He’s one of pop’s most promising and powerful young contenders, and he’s on his way to becoming a leader for the genre. As a brand, we cherish the chance to work with stars of this caliber.”
Cash Money Records co-founder and co-C.E.O. Bryan “Baby” Williams aka Birdman adds, “We were extremely impressed by everything Chase Records has done with Austin. We bonded over a similar mindset, and it made sense on every level to team up. I can’t wait to see what we collectively accomplish.”
Meanwhile, the Chase Records team Michael Blumstein, Rocco Valdes, and David Abram agree, “Cash Money‘s support will be integral to the next phase of Chase Records and their artist development. It’s amazing to join forces with one of music’s most respected and revered entities. It’s clear to us that our label and our artists are a priority at Universal with both Cash Money and Republic Records behind us.
Together, Chase Records and Cash Money Records are ready to take over pop music. Their first project together will be the upcoming debut album release from Austin Mahone.
Austin Mahone continues to solidify himself as a genuine musical phenomenon as well. This past weekend at the MTV Video Music Awards, he took home the high honor of “Artist To Watch”, and his irresistible new single “What About Love” has accumulated over 32 million YouTube/VEVO views and counting.

The Skeptical Cynic: Why Apologize When You Really Don’t Mean It? Or, I Wasn’t Thinking About My Paper When I was in the Studio!
So, another rapper down! It’s been reported that Pepsico finally pulled the plug on its endorsement of Lil Wayne. This comes right after Reebok dropped Rick Ross after a lyrical blunder by the rotund rapper.
The controversy started with lyrics that Wayne Carter aka Lil Wayne said in his verse on a remix of Future’s song ‘Karate Chop’, in reference to Weezy beating the, let’s say vagina, like Emmit Till. Now, for the few of you who don’t have a clue as to who Emmit Till is, he was a black boy, aged 14, beaten to death by ignorant whites in 1955, simply for flirting with a white woman in Mississippi. So, you can understand the sensitive nature of the controversy.
We also have 37 year old ‘Rick Ross’, who basically stated in his lyrics that he would ‘take advantage’ of a young lady by simply adding a drug to her beverage, which, in legal and moral terms, would constitute ‘date rape’. This was a 2 line lyric from a song he was featured on named ‘U.O.E.N.O. by Rocko.
So, because of these lyrics, both rappers have lost substantial paydays based on the ignorance of the words recorded in a song. Read more…

I was in the car headed to the Atlanta OneMillionRising rally with Mari and three of her female classmates, singing Prince’s “Adore” loud and off-key, when girlpie commandeered the radio dial in search of—what else?—hip hop. “I can’t believe you turned off Prince,” I sniffed. “Since your little friends are in the car, I’ll give you that, but please be aware: I’m not feeling Lil’ Wayne in general and, because of his nasty lyrics about Emmett Till, today I particularly don’t like his behind, so he will not be on my radio, please and thank you.”
“Wait, huh?” the girls asked, practically in unison. “What did he say?”
Typical. The girls had no clue that one of their generation’s most revered rappers was being called out by the Civil Rights icon’s family for comparing sex with the brutal, merciless beating that killed the then-14-year-old Till. For kids, that kind of news never appeals; they nod to the beat, Tweet about what Kim Kardashian did on her latest reality show, obsess over Mindless Behavior Instagram posts and ignore that which gets the adults all riled up. Never mind that, though: I was pissed and I wanted them to understand why they should be, too. “I mean, besides constantly making it seem like the only good sex is violent sex, this fool callously used the brutal murder of Emmett Till to describe what he’d like to do to a woman’s body. You should be infuriated.” Read more…

It was Lil Wayne’s song “No Worries” that did it— sent me hurtling down yet another slippery slope on the rollercoaster ride that is parenting.
A prominent part of the song is Wayne’s blushingly explicit tribute to abundant pubic hair. Every time it comes on the radio when my teenage daughter is in the car, I feel shame—a reaction that took me by surprise.
The song triggers my fatherly protective instincts—the desire to shield my daughter from things that will do her harm. I feel shame and embarrassment that as a dad, my generation has allowed “No Worries” and all the songs like it to be presented to my daughter as acceptable entertainment, as lyrics that she should absorb into her brain as an appropriate way for a young man to talk to her and about her.
Of course, we have been accosted by unbelievably explicit and offensive rap lyrics for more than a decade. But the difference for me is that now I have to listen to them with my newly minted teenage daughter in the car, a 13-year-old who has a deep passion for hardcore hip hop.
Gone are the days when I could simply change the channel when something came on the radio that I deemed inappropriate. Out of ear shot; out of mind. Now she’s actively looking for this stuff to download onto her iPhone. There’s no escaping it. The age of innocence is over. We still have some time with her little sister, who at age 10 is (thankfully? painfully?) in love with Taylor Swift and wants nothing to do with the rap that blankets the black airwaves here in Atlanta. Not sure how long this embrace of Taylor will last, but at this point I much prefer Taylor Swift to Lil Wayne (something I didn’t think I’d ever hear myself say). Read more…
