NYC’s OSCAR SANCHEZ gets ready for AFFLUENT 2012

December 9, 2011 Leave a comment

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usIn an era where most labels are folding and crashing.  Music industry veteran Oscar Sanchez and his New York City digital urban record label imprint AFFLUENT RECORDS seems to keep surviving afloat striving forward against the industry’s waves of up & down woes.

Now open in its 7th year the label has slowly risen as one of NYC top urban digital labels to be with. Modeled much in the same similar fashion as an early Def Jam. Oscar has enabled to take the lessons and experience he acquired while working in the industry at the top labels and revised a new work model to be able to work forward in to the digital era more successfully. “I am so happy with the way the label has grown. Seven years ago we started out amongst a lot of competition in NYC and not to mention within the country. Our key was opening our doors as a NYC label to not only regional artists but to artists throughout the country right from the very beginning. Another great blessing has been the beautiful service of the net, which has allowed us to fully communicate with these artists much more fluidly now a days than just wasting time the old fashion ways hoping something popped up hot, now A&R can actually work hard and search worldwide. Also since our distribution is worldwide we not only have branded our name nationwide but have also been able to now expand the brand over to Europe. Read more…

Monica… A Real Basketball Wife
R&B star and real life Basketball Wife Monica shares exclusive family photos with S2S and tells Publisher Jamie Foster Brown about her life with her hubby, L.A. Lakers star guard Shannon Brown: when she knew he was “the one,” how they make their blended family work, what’s up with her girlfriends Keyshia Cole and Brandy, her new CD, why she consults with super-producer Dallas Austin on everything, reality TV and her true thoughts on her gig with The Voice. When asked if she’ll ever go back to having her own reality show, she says, “It depends on how.  Shannon and I definitely don’t want The Monica-Shannon Show.  We’re in the early stages of our marriage; we’re just one year in, so we’re constantly building the foundation.  We don’t want to open up the doors for others to be constantly tearing it down.  Would I do a show about the music, more like Still Standing (BET) was?  Of course.

And on Dallas Austin, she admits, “I don’t do records without consulting with Dallas.  I didn’t get married before I spoke to him…so when I play him songs, and Dallas jumps up and down and he starts moving and dancing, I know that that record is a real Monica record.”

5 Reasons Why Black Folks Should #Occupy

http://thehotness.com/2011/12/09/5-reasons-why-black-folks-should-occupy/

By Nicole Moore

Black folk have been in the 99% since the Middle Passage. Slavery made sure the majority of us would never be in that 1% by terrorizing our African souls and dismantling our families, our language, our culture, our religion, our bodies, and our spirit. As poet Nikky Finney reminded us when she accepted her National Book Award last month, “Black people were the only people in the United States ever explicitly forbidden to become literate.” Long before Occupy Wall Street, thanks to Nat Turner, Harriet Tubman and the like, we already had Occupy Massa’s Plantation so excuse Black folk if they didn’t come a running to Zucotti Park.

Personally I’m down with Occupy Wall Street although I have not gone down to occupy Wall Street. I’ve been busy working and then I figured I’d let my young radicals handle it this time around. I had paid my dues when I marched for Rodney King, Abner Louima and then again, more recently, for Sean Bell. To be clear, I’m more than frustrated with the state of our economy and our selfish government, but even after seeing Angela Davis, Kanye West and Russell Simmons down with #OWS, I still wasn’t moved to pitch a tent and participate. I was all tapped out. Read more…
