Who: Erik Abel AKA Gen.Erik
What: Booking Agent, Manager, MC, DJ, Producer, Snake Charmer, Lion Tamer. Pretty much a jack of all trades.
Why: I’m one of the few industry heads that is here for the right reasons.  I’ve lived and breathed Hip-Hop for over half my life, and sacrificed everything to be in this position.  I started as a DJ and then began to produce in the mid 90′s.  Soon I became an MC and later formed a crew called Animal Farm and ran a boutique label out of the Northwest, Focused Noise.  After moving from Portland to NYC, I landed a job as a booking agent with International Artists Agency, where I book legends who inspired me as a youth, such as Method Man & Redman, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Wu-Tang Clan, and more.
Where: I recently left NYC and am now in an undisclosed, private location in a beach town in California.
When: Established October 2012.

You have to wonder what the person who thought of combining peanut butter and jelly was thinking when they did so. Did they know that many years later, it would be a winning combination that is still enjoyed today?

Maybe journalist/author Adisa Banjoko has the same thought process. Well, of course, not in terms of combining food, but in blending not two, but three passions that intertwine in his world. Each one can be and has been uplifting, not only to him, but to a legion of people who, in some form or fashion, has incorporated it into their every day lives.

Years ago, it may have seemed unlikely that hip hop, martial arts and chess would be a merger, but then again, why not? To some, the principles, logic and technique in each one, typically makes the participant better balanced. The art form and annals of each, has a substantial history that lessons can and are learned from. Think of the influence of the Wu-Tang Clan when it comes to all three. Read more…

“CZARFACE” project will include contributions from Action Bronson, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Roc Marciano, DJ Premier & Large Professor

With his illustrious career spanning nearly two-decades now, it would be easy for Inspectah Deck to sit back and rest on his laurels; after all, he has helped create some of the best hip-hop music ever recorded. Despite his low-key persona, Deck carved out his own unique space in the Wu-Tang Clan, thanks to his stand-out verses from “C.R.E.A.M.,” “Protect Ya Neck” and his otherworldly verse on “Triumph” among many. Likewise, who could forget Deck’s contributions on Ghostface’s Ironman (“Assassination Day”), his many appearances on Raekwon’s OBFCL, GZA’s Liquid Swords (“Cold World”) or his collaborations with Gang Starr (“Above The Clouds”) and Big Pun (“Tres Leches” which also featured Mobb Deep’s Prodigy).
