GRASSROOTS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION PRESENTS 3RD ANNUAL ‘GIVE THANKS’ FUNDRAISER HOSTED BY MONA SCOTT-YOUNG SATURDAY, NOV. 22

Annual charitable event to include VIPs Tariq ‘Black Thought’ Trotter, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Michellene Davis and more

(WEST ORANGE, NJ) – November 18, 2014 – The GrassROOTS Community Foundation (GCF)- a non-profit committed to the health and well-being of women and girls – will hold its 3rd AnnualGive Thanks: Cocktail Fundraiser & Concert” on Saturday, November 22 at a private location in Short Hills, NJ.
Hosted by entertainment mogul and GrassROOTS board member Mona Scott-Young and sponsored by City National Bank and Bartenura Wines, the sold-out event features GCF co-founder and Grammy-winning recording artist TariqBlack ThoughtTrotter of the Roots, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and Michellene Davis, Esq, executive vice president of corporate affairs at Barnabas Health. The Enoch Smith, Jr. Jazz Band will perform along with a special DJ set by Scotty Nevers. Additional special guests will include members of New Jersey State Legislature.

This year’s fundraiser theme is “In Everything, Give Thanks,” a message that illustrates the spirit of GCF’s holiday efforts. For the past three years, proceeds from the “Give Thanks” event have provided 100 turkeys to residents of Georgia King Village, a crime-ridden housing development in Newark, NJ. Turkeys donated this year will be distributed to Georgia King residents on Monday, November 24 by Girl Scout Troop #40724 and the GrassROOTS Super Campers. TV personalities Yandy Smith and Mendeecees Harris of “Love & Hip Hop: New York” will also be in attendance.
GCF will expand its giving to Georgia King Village this year in honor of the late Tanji Dewberry, a long-time GrassROOTS supporter who tragically died in a house fire earlier this year along with her 8-year old son Evan. Funds raised from this year’s celebration will go toward the development of an on-site health program for mothers and children at Georgia King Village.

To get involved and donate $25 for a turkey, visit www.grass-rootsfoundation.org/donate.html, or mail a check to 634 Eagle Rock Ave, Suite 295, West Orange, NJ 07052. GCF is a 501c3 and all donations are tax-deductible.
