It Needs To Be CED: Start Firing Elected Officials and Do Your Own Research BEFORE You Vote!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usThe way government is run nowadays, it’s not about the people, constituents or the communities being served. It’s all about the elected official and what he thinks or what the lobbyists want. There was a time when politicians actually spoke to the people that helped get them in office in order to understand and know what concerns the community has. But, it’s more apparent that it doesn’t matter what the voters think and this is troubling. There has been countless opportunities recently for elected officials to hear the voice of the people, yet, instead, they ignored those voices and voted or have made changes the people disagreed with. This has to stop!

I do understand that people are skeptics when it comes to the electoral process and especially in the Black community, where the people feel they aren’t truly represented in government, EVEN with a Black president at the helm. In fact, a lot of Blacks feels as if President Obama doesn’t care about them without them realizing that he is the president of ALL U.S. citizens and not just Blacks. But, that’s a different topic for a different time. The fact of the matter is that the people are disgruntled with elected officials in general. But, people don’t realize or won’t acknowledge that they still have a voice in who is elected. We need to start firing these politicians, plain and simple!

When an official is not doing the job promised or you feel he does not represent you, then vote against him in the next election. It’s really that simple. And despite your political affiliation, you should ALWAYS vote for the best person for the job. There are times where a Republican may do a better job than a Democrat and if you are registered Democrat, don’t be afraid to vote against the party if you feel that opponent is the better choice. We’ve got this attitude that we HAVE to vote for who is placed in front of us from the party we are registered with and this is why politicians get away with what they do. This also needs to stop.

We also have to stop voting for people based on what others tell us to if we don’t agree with that choice! Yes, I’m talking about union members, church members and any group that publicly endorses a candidate. This is where corruption comes in! Your pastor or union president may be getting some type of kickback, money or benefit that you won’t ever get to share, so why should that person benefit off a candidate that you don’t like, but will vote for simply because the pastor or union rep ‘suggested’. No, make that candidate work for your vote and don’t be a sheep and then regret a decision that will affect you for years!

Start researching the candidates, there is just too much information readily available on the internet, newspapers, television and radio for you to blindly vote for someone only because of the color of their skin, the pastor is pressuring you to elect or the political party is force feeding you! This is about YOUR future and well-being.

Fire the elected official if you aren’t happy! Don’t be discouraged and stop being a part of the election process! For everyone that is as disgusted as you and I, there are countless others who agree with you but if we stop caring or not vetting these candidates and make them responsible for their shortfalls, we’ll see a better crop of candidates and/or we will have a say in all decisions concerning us and our communities!

Yes, it needs to be CED. Although, I have voiced similar views over the past few years, I can not begin to tell you how many different ways that other African Americans have attacked me.
