Houston acts to embark on national tour in March

New York, NY – Legendary Port Arthur, TX rapper Bun B and Houston rising star Kirko Bangz will hit the road in March for a national tour that will touch most US major markets. The Trillest Tour will kick off on March 6 in San Marcos, TX and will wrap on April 17 in Atlanta, GA.

In 1988, I was thirteen years old and I wanted to be a singer. And a dancer. And a lawyer. And a writer.

One out of four ain’t too bad, I suppose.

I also wanted to be Oprah.

Yes, as in THE Oprah Winfrey. I wanted the big, eighties, feathered hair. The Fashion Fair make-up. And the ability to ask white people provocative questions without fear of the consequences.

For a little brown girl growing up in Louisville, KY, the idea of a young black woman from the South, hosting and ultimately owning her own talk show and production company, was foreign and fascinating and worthy of my admiration.

And though I’d set Oprah in the forefront of my vision, I have to give my mother credit for never, ever, ever telling me that I couldn’t be a writing, dancing, singing, litigating talk show host. By virtue of her not discouraging my lofty ambitions, she taught me that I could be whatever I wanted. To this day, it has never occurred to me that I can’t do whatever I choose to do if I work hard and said task is the will of God for my life.

Introduced to the hip-hop world as the winner of the 2007 ‘Mic 4 Your Life Battle’ hosted by Mad Linx of BET, Minty has since released four projects in the last four years: Magnificent Road, ’09; Red, White & Green, ’10; and Canadian Mint, ’11, which was his most well-received release to date and included features and production from artists including Smoke DZA, Freck Billionaire, Emilio Rojas, MoSS, and MPhazes. His mixtape, The Vacation, was released in 2012.

Beniton ‘the Menace’, treated fans and media to a taste of his music, having his single release party for “Baby Girl (F.Y.E.O)” at Preserve 24 in NYC. Jack Thriller of JackThriller.com hosted the event while DJ Fugi Slim entertained the crowd with Beniton’s single and other songs from his upcoming EP. In attendance were Konvict Music A&R’s as well as Kranium, fellow Reggae artist from Queens, who is also blazing the Reggae charts at this time. The audience responded well to “Baby Girl“, singing and dancing along as it played throughout the event. There’s many more to come from this International performer. Their responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Collecting and compiling research and data on African American education, institutions and communities; Performing data entry and managing the office database; Greeting and escorting visitors to meetings; Participating in strategic planning and staff meetings and other Department policy briefings and meetings relevant to the work of the Initiative; Responding to constituent inquiries verbally or in writing; and more.
